The Tailor Of Gloucester by Beatrix Potter
A Christmas tale.
After all, the Mayor of Gloucester is getting married at noon on Christmas Day -- but what will happen with his cherry-colored coat, with the tailor falling ill right after he had carefully cut all the pieces, leaving scraps so small they could only make clothing for mice?
It involves teacups and mice set free from them, cherry-colored twist, a resentful cat, and all the birds singing with words on Christmas night, and mice reciting Mother Goose rhymes.
My favorite of her books. And the one J. R. R. Tolkien thought the closest to being a fairy tale.
