let there be light

Stopped revising to figure out how to untie a knot. Namely if it's already sunset, how are my heroes able to see enough to run about?
No street lights of course. No convenient moon -- even if I hadn't decreed it was nearly new, it involves places where the shacks are enough to make moonlight dubious. One character has a light spell but light is conspicious, and he can't risk it. Even far away -- they can't get far enough that it would be invisible, and light far off would really draw attention.
Up close, of course, it would draw attention still. And make it easier for them to be spotted.
So if they can't move by daylight, there's only fumble around the dark and risk coming close enough to move by enemy torchlight.
I think I have to omit the sunset and give them more time to run about.
