ambitious

Mine:

Water condensed on the equipment in chill, and his breath was white.

"So," said Tam, "that's all we need to do. Figure this out, fix whatever led to it, undo it, save everyone."

Clutterbuck shrugged. "Hard, I know, but you need to learn the less ambitious plans often work better."

Does Tam need to think smaller, or does Clutterbuck need to think bigger? Nice way to establish conflict in a few words.

Here's mine:

Our teacher said that every gesture, every movement, should show your ambition. Point your toes more sharply, raise your arms higher, stand more confidently, than the next dancer. In the audition line, it will be clear who really wants it.

They are both being ironic. Tam's understating the scale of what they must do, and Clutterbuck's urging that they must limit themselves as if they didn't have grave doubts that it was possible to do even that.

You couldn't call her ambitious, driven was more like it. Still, it could pass for ambitious in that it drove her towards a goal she had every intention of achieving.

A goal her family and neighbors were not at all eager to see her achieve, in that it meant the collapse of the universe into a rather cramped ink bottle that still had a half ounce of ink in it.
