My venture:

"Nothing wrong with how the water flows," said Clutterbuck, cheerfully.

Talia instantly thought of a bath. She fought it down. He spoke only of how it flowed. After all that happened, they could not trust the water.

"Here, Talia, you handle this," said Hawthorne. She held a water testing kit.

We crept through the crumbling marble building, seeing the baths as they once were, imagining azure water in every empty pit. "I'm good at rebuilding ruins--in my head," I told him. I wanted to take his hand but didn't dare. I wanted to ask if he'd forgiven me yet.
