My venture:
When he woke, a drip resounded, where the water drops hit metal.
Faintly, beneath it, he heard the sound of breathing. All three still slept, despite the noise, in exhaustion. He sighed. He could stop fooling himself that they might find others. It all depended on how capable they were.
