Once upon a time there was a writer who came to the conclusion that since she needed shapeshifting, she needed more tales with shapeshifting in them. Preferably with wicked wizards and witches and demons being behind it in some way, to lend unity to the world.

They stream out, when the question is put that clearly. So strongly that I'm wonder which one throw in -- our hero is about to leave the court of his brother-in-law the king (since his sister already lived through a fairy tale, namely The Three Aunts) -- and I decided having the king deal with a court case would be a nice background detail.

The question is to use the one where the wicked stepmother turned her stepchildren into a lamb and a fish, or where the witch turned herself into a cat just before she was caught. Both of which have parallels to the fairy tale that our hero and his sister lived through in childhood -- hmm -- though one is rather more clearly parallel than the other -- hmmm --

Decisions, decisions. Even on details.

If this is for the story with the magic book and the hero that learns to shape change, the tale where the witch turns her self into a cat sounds like it might be better for foreshadowing.
