My effort:

He felt, for a moment, a spiteful desire to smash every glass bottle on the lab bench, regardless of what it contained and what a mess (at the very best) it would make. At worst it would explode in glorious fury. And get back at the -- well, world, he supposed.

The characters are from a work in progress, although things went a little differently in the novel and that situation was forestalled (although it didn't prevent worse problems later).

I've actually had to deal with someone like that. It's been many years, but I'm still afraid that if I want something too much or like something too much, someone will just have to mess it up for me, even if it means messing it up for everyone.

My characters are also from a work in progress. In fact, they're all from the same work in progress. Which is probably going to be at least half vignette by the time I hook it all up.
