Lousy marketing description. It's not a send-up of Gothic literature. It's a send-up of Litachur Snobs.
In the short story (which I've read before) and the graphic novel (which I've got now), a young man aspires to be not only a writer, but a writer of slices of life that reflect the human condition. Only, he lives in a Gothic world, where Castle of Otranto is a classic of realism. They clash to humorous effect, until a crucial question lets him resolve his dilemma.
