My efforts:
The birds flew swiftly about the tower, chirping. Roses blossomed in delicate pinks on the climbing vines. And inside lived a princess, or at least a girl living as close to a princess's life as her mother could manage. As safe from all danger as the birds on the wing from a cat.
A gray cat came prowling out, eying the little company. Michel looked ahead. A flute trilled ahead, through a light and plaintive song. No one came to stare at the new arrivals.
And he should have a care about looking like he expected it. He should not look like a country bumpkin.
