Picked up a story again and had some people next to a marshy area and later walking through the woods.

Only after writing did I remember -- oh, yes, this is happening in the winter. There had better be no leaves on the trees, but ice on the water. Not perhaps iced over, but -- ice.

And these are the sorts of things that the point-of-view character would notice. Vividly.

sigh At least the plot doesn't turn on warm weather.
