naming nobles

ah, world-building. There I was, muddling through a world where there is a standing army with officers who aren't noblemen, and a powerful nobility, and then I decided that the heroine queen has to make two new nobles.
There is a little pother about how the nobles in the region were attacked by the king before the last one -- he was as bad as his successor -- but there is going to be no evidence that these two men are, in fact, hidden descendants of the noble families who managed to hide among commoners. At least, none that is good.
So was pondering nobles and armies and how this brings to mind the 19th century or the 18th, not so much the feudal middle ages. True, men of noble blood will be in the armed forces, but this is the era of "cadet" -- meaning, originally, a younger son, because the older would not go into it, unlike a feudal era. I reminded myself I have already brought a hot air balloon into it. On the other hand, they use swords and arrows.
I think I shall rip off an idea: when enchanting weapons, the part that inflicts the wound must bear the enchantment. Blades, arrowheads, or bullets. The difference being the first two can be re-used.
Still working out social structure. I shall have to exploit the differences from mundane reality brought about by magic more than for the weapons used.
