sequels and time

I'm not even sure that the sequel comes after the first.
The characters in it do know something that the characters in the other learn, but perhaps knowledge was earlier there?
Hmmm -- no. First book happens in the epicenter. Therefore the knowledge had to spread.
Does set the history a bit. Now for the geography. . . .
