The life is well peppered with accounts of Confucius's sayings in context. Also, I would not bet too much on its historical accuracy.
The sayings and anecdotes are indeed only selections. The illustrations are not quite so useful there in elucidating the text -- or, indeed, as they are in his The Tao Speaks, but still, an intriguing work.
