the girls in the garden

Ah, joy. I start a story when the heroine's a baby, and most of it takes place when she's a maiden -- but one thing has to happen when she's a child.
A nice little character defining moment between her and her spoiled rotten cousin.
So I need something that shows how spoiled the cousin is, with everyone saying, Oh, the poor girl is cursed and letting her be cruel to whomever she pleases. . . and that defines the heroine, who is neither spoiled rotten herself nor an angelic little angel without a flaming sword. (Angel with a flaming sowrd is also impractical.)
Especially dangerous in that it gives her a splendid chance to whimper, which is not a good sign.
Mind you, it would be best if it could happen in the garden and involve roses because of other things in the story, but that doesn't exactly nail down what I want.
