Was laying out protocol in the fairy tale kingdoms. One rule is that small royal children from different kingdoms can only meet if they are first cousins once removed or first cousins. You have to be at least nine to meet someone whom you could one day marry.

A character starts to cook something in a scene where they are regrouping, and given her noble birth, someone will jest that she was taught for fear she would have to run away from home and get a job in a scullery, like a fairy tale princess.

Looking at rolling my own sorcerer bloodline type for GameLit. Third time I've done, because it's the third time I've had an idea with a major sorcerer character. . . .

When reading up on changes to D&D and on Pathfinder -- homebrew games tend to be miscellaneous in sources -- especially in GameLit -- I was of course reading up on the sorcerer class.

Was poking around with what one of the villains is doing. . . and realized he was after what was almost the ultimate Macguffin -- a Macguffin being something that motivates the characters in a story without the audience caring about it.

Considering I know what the villains will do in the end, it's surprisingly hard to get the clues, like ducklings, in a row.

That's the thing about endowing the main character with four much older siblings -- twelve years younger than the next youngest -- and giving one of the slightly younger characters an uncle who's barely older than he is.

No sooner do I ponder whether his great-uncle raised him than -- his great-uncle arrives.

There were two princesses.  First cousins.  Nearly the same age.  The one that was the king's daughter was under a curse, which will be romantic as she grows up but now is just an excuse to spoil her rotten.

The thing about the man in the iron mask is the rather weak reasons for locking the man down that severely and not, oh, slipping some poison in his soup.
