Wondering how I missed not only smoothing the transition to noticing the king, but that noticing the king is when most of the info-dumping fits in most neatly
Everything from "the king's brother is much younger than the king himself" to "the king's daughter is Sleeping Beauty, and he's rather begrudging of his niece."
sigh

cousins and fairy tales
Sep. 18th, 2020 11:55 pmWas laying out protocol in the fairy tale kingdoms. One rule is that small royal children from different kingdoms can only meet if they are first cousins once removed or first cousins. You have to be at least nine to meet someone whom you could one day marry.

ah, incidents
Apr. 21st, 2020 11:50 pmA character starts to cook something in a scene where they are regrouping, and given her noble birth, someone will jest that she was taught for fear she would have to run away from home and get a job in a scullery, like a fairy tale princess.

pondering sorcerers and blood
Jan. 12th, 2019 06:56 pmLooking at rolling my own sorcerer bloodline type for GameLit. Third time I've done, because it's the third time I've had an idea with a major sorcerer character. . . .

curbing the magic, sorcerer edition
Dec. 31st, 2018 02:46 pmWas pondering curbing my sorceress, which does not work quite like for a wizard, and still less like a cleric.
Still, limiting the spells works.

pondering classes
Dec. 11th, 2018 11:59 amWhen reading up on changes to D&D and on Pathfinder -- homebrew games tend to be miscellaneous in sources -- especially in GameLit -- I was of course reading up on the sorcerer class.

family bonds
Oct. 7th, 2018 07:39 pmWas working on the RPG-verse world-building: clerics and paladins are associated with the church. Consecrated, in fact. (Also other character classes may be.)

youth and age
Apr. 18th, 2018 10:42 pmHad to throw away a page yesterday. Got the heroine out on the trail to the picnic site with her extended family, and realized that while she's young -- she has to be a legal minor -- this is making her too childish.

the adult problem
Dec. 2nd, 2017 11:03 pmI had a brilliant idea for a story that was pretty stuck: the other girl didn't have to be the heroine's cousin, and her own age. She could be her aunt! Whom I didn't need to marry off, or kill off, in the backstory!
Brilliant! And then -- it whacks me with the adult problem.

the penultimate Macguffin plot
Nov. 26th, 2017 07:33 pmWas poking around with what one of the villains is doing. . . and realized he was after what was almost the ultimate Macguffin -- a Macguffin being something that motivates the characters in a story without the audience caring about it.

pieces and fragments
Nov. 21st, 2017 10:34 pmConsidering I know what the villains will do in the end, it's surprisingly hard to get the clues, like ducklings, in a row.

is he an uncle?
Nov. 10th, 2017 08:15 pmThat's the thing about endowing the main character with four much older siblings -- twelve years younger than the next youngest -- and giving one of the slightly younger characters an uncle who's barely older than he is.

once upon a time
Sep. 13th, 2016 11:08 pmThere were two princesses. First cousins. Nearly the same age. The one that was the king's daughter was under a curse, which will be romantic as she grows up but now is just an excuse to spoil her rotten.

the character in the iron mask
Sep. 11th, 2016 01:49 amThe thing about the man in the iron mask is the rather weak reasons for locking the man down that severely and not, oh, slipping some poison in his soup.
