space and world-building: an observation
Feb. 27th, 2016 11:43 pmIf your planet is in space implausible crowded with asteroids and other such stuff to make navigation a hazard and force crash-landing. . . .
Your planet ought to have continual -- and spectacular -- meteor showers.
(Make enough of the big ones iron, and you've had a big influence on your planet's possible technology.)

It might also be possible to orbit trillions of ball bearings (or whatever) on the plane of the ecliptic, making a visible belt around the planet that no asteroid (or space craft) could possibly get through unscathed. That might be tricky in practice, though.
