ah, what to wear

What does a proper young lady wear when she goes for a walk, and suspects there may be a real danger of being pixy-led?  Which would necessitate her turning an article of clothing inside out to escape?

Outside. And with the pixies in question being likely to be boys.

Fortunately, it's fall, and soon to be winter.  She can wear suitable outer garments.

I think I will have her reflect on the season and be glad of it, and resolve that no matter how balmy the weather, she's going to wear a shawl -- or possibly a wrap -- and one that clearly has a wrong side. Otherwise -- I suppose it would be practical to turn her stockings inside out. But she would have to hope for somewhere to sit, or her dress would be -- well, not ruined, it's a walking dress, not a gown. But in need of the laundress.

If pixies consider hats to clothing, maybe knitted hats that can be turned inside out would be a possibility?

Hmmm. . . I think, being a lady, she might wear a cap instead, under her bonnet. Knitted hats are a bit -- well, a bit.
