It occurs to me that there are others. Defensive magic is all very well, especially when you are a target. But they have farming magic, and food preserving magic, and scads of others.
And why was she channeled into defensive magic at all? Just because her (extremely limited) knowledge of the problems they defend against?
Or was she ? She has years of study ahead; this could all be foundational.
Though she's going to need a reason to study it, or her teachers to channel her into it. 'cause, you know, plot. Also how she's going to meet her Love Interest.
But it doesn't have to be upfront.
