The advantage of a steampunk space opera story (with a meganeko princess!) is that it means planets.  And mobility.  And so lots and lots and lots of places to put stuff.  A planetary romance gives some of the same scoop --if, that is, you use it instead of making your world uniform.

Personally, I love it.  All sorts of wonderful details can be shoehorned in somehow, if only you have enough space for them.  I'm still wrestling with how many countries to put on each planet.  Which raises questions of not only planet size but geography, history, and martial ardor -- each of which can both shrink and increase kingdoms.  But it gives a lot of scope for stuff.

Though it does get a little interesting if you are the sort, like me, that lets the story drive the world.  An enormous collect of tidbits and no matrix to hold them all.  And you wonder whether they are all compatible and whether they really can all fit in the worlds, wide as they are.

Then, again, thinking too much about that keeps you from the story, which is the important thing.  A mad  jumble of things adds local color.

A steampunk space opera story with a meganeko princess sounds like the best idea ever.

Now I want to buy a copy, and the yarn is not even written yet.
