Poking around with an idea. A superhero story with a different metaorigin that the one complete AND the one in process.

It's ripping off an idea from the backstory of one I read. The story was great, but -- I was kinda interested in what happened to a major character whose story the main character had learned. Back stories are generally nicer to file off the serial numbers off. BUT -- it needs to be simplified for structural elegance.

Further reflections on how the law would change for superpowers --

The biggest question, of course, is how powerful they are, compared to normal humans.  Though that would have some caveats based on whether normal humans can get their hands on technology produced by some Gadgeteers, super-technology-makers -- and technology that can be maintained by normal humans.

When reading about how the law would apply to superheroes, sometimes I am mildly annoyed at the treatment of the law as if it were the law of the Medes and Persians that altereth not. Such as -- true, the FAA has authority only over people who fly with devices, and one of the last cases of a British court dealing with witchcraft had the judge telling the witnesses who claimed to see a woman flying that flying was not a crime. The advent of flying superheroes would change that quick -- or might not.

One thing that would affect how it would change would be the meta-origin. And if there were more than one source, it would probably affect how the law changed.

So in this Gamelit world, sorcerers have to adventure by law, and tend to adventure until they have a spell -- or several -- that is new.

So what is life like for a young sorcerer, RPG style?  That is, the sort that are innately magical?

How do they realize they are sorcerers?  How do they figure out what spells they have?  (Especially given that the player can choose the spells that have no relation to the source of the sorcerer's power?)  It's the sort of thing that is seldom role-played.  And what with verbal, somatic, and material components, it is hard to see how it can happen accidentally.

What magic would they have in a Gamelit world?

The spell lists tend to be heavily weighed toward adventure-useful, and they claim that adventurers are rare, but the worlds are obviously high magic.  If for no other reason that the women do not spend their entire child-bearing years bearing and nursing children in order for two to survive on average.

So mucking about with the meta-origin for superheroes (and villains) and while I have declared -- by fiat -- that it affects no one under seven and precious few under fourteen -- still, when heroes have children, they will be exposed to the meta-origin source.

Prenatally, making the question of adoption at birth moot -- as, of course, does the little issue that super-parents will decide whether you place their children for adoption.

It's the end of the tale. The evil villainess has not torn herself apart in rage at losing or run away, or anything so convenient as that.

Was thinking about various lawyerly discussions about the problems with superheroes testifying in secret identity. . .those would go double if the superhero was a vigilante, unauthorized by the authorities.

Zoning, of course, would be interesting in trying to deal with any super in a city not designed for supers.

Was contemplating it after Team-ups and Crossovers, where one super world has child superheroes, and one doesn't (though, some states let you do some limited stuff at sixteen).

The thing about the man in the iron mask is the rather weak reasons for locking the man down that severely and not, oh, slipping some poison in his soup.

So there's this new superhero -- made according to his world, and so a product of mad science, not to say a victim of mad scientists --

Here comes the circus.  Here comes the cops.  To harass them of course. . . though, in this universe, where superheroes are just getting started, they have more than usual reason.
